As well as supporting our carers, Karen Reeves also supports our patients with dementia. Below she describes what she does and how she might be able to help you:
I often see patients when they become concerned about their memory before any formal dementia diagnosis. I offer support with a free memory test which, depending upon the outcome, may result in a referral to the Memory Assessment Service. I also organise a blood test which is used in the dementia test process.
When a patient is diagnosed with dementia, I will make contact and offer my help and support. I also refer patients to Help and Care, a local voluntary organisation who support Dorset residents with a diagnosis of dementia. I can support patients to be signposted to the Leonardo Trust for grants or respite where suitable and for those requiring additional support, I can help patients attend other services such as the day centre in Blandford.
