Karen Reeves is our Carers Coordinator and explains her role in supporting our patients:
My role involves supporting patients that have caring responsibilities for a partner, relative or loved one. I help them get registered as carers, if they are nor already, and send out helpful information and guidance as well as giving them my contact details so that they can contact me directly if they require assistance. I send all our carers an annual self-assessment on their birth month, and it’s an opportunity for patients to identify any support needs they may have.
I make sure that I’m aware of external services in Dorset and beyond that might be able to support our carers and can help by signposting patients to help and advice that might be of benefit to them. I organise a Carers Clinic once a month on the 2nd Thursday of each month to offer additional advice and support and we also carry out a mini health check for carers that want one which reviews blood pressure, weight, and cholesterol.
